There’s something mesmerizing about fireworks. The way they explode against the night sky with boldness and beauty — vibrant, fleeting, unforgettable. As I sat at a firework show, watching the sky erupt in bursts of light, I had a quiet revelation from God: life can be a lot like fireworks. In order to witness the brilliance, you must first sit through the darkness.
And in many ways, life is no different.
We live through stretches of darkness: quiet seasons, unknown paths, disappointments, and pain. There are long stretches of night — uncertainty, heartbreak, loss, silence. Times when you can’t see your next step, and the silence feels louder than your hope. But if we wait, and if we endure, there are bursts. Moments that break through the night. Moments that remind us beauty is still possible here.
Sometimes, the burst is simply surviving a season that was meant to destroy you — the kind of breakthrough that doesn’t just shine, but radiates resilience. You didn’t just get through it. You broke through it.
There’s the burst of becoming a mother. Of holding life in your hands and realizing you are the portal through which heaven touched earth. A holy experience of love, pain, and purpose.
Then there are the bursts you don’t expect…The burst of finding love in God when you were certain your heart was too far gone. The burst when He gives you a glimpse of your future— a vision, a whisper, a moment of clarity that reminds you He hasn’t forgotten you.
The burst of love finding you, when you weren’t even looking, when you thought it had passed you by. Love not just from a person, but from a God who is love, and whose timing always proves perfect.
These moments don’t cancel the dark — they define it. They give the midnight sky its meaning. Fireworks wouldn’t be fireworks if they happened in daylight. And our victories wouldn’t shine the same without the shadow we came through to reach them.
So if you’re in the dark right now, hold on. Keep looking up. Your next burst might be closer than you think.
And when it comes?
Don’t just watch it….feel it. Let it remind you:
There’s beauty in becoming. There’s power in your perseverance. And there’s purpose in every pause before the light.
